We all know the feeling: you want to explore the rugged beauty of Kaikoura or the alpine heights of Arthur’s Pass, but the thought of navigating holiday traffic, hunting for a park, and staring at the bumper in front of you feels... well, like work.
What if the most affordable way to see the sights was also the most relaxing?
When you factor in current fuel prices, the mental tax of mountain driving, and the cost of feeding the family on the road, the DIY road trip starts to lose its shine. This season, we’re inviting you to ‘park the keys.'
Whether you’re a solo explorer looking for company, a couple on a romantic getaway, or a family trying to keep everyone happy, joining a small group is a surprisingly budget-friendly alternative to self driving. Once you step into our air-conditioned premium touring vans, the overheads disappear and the responsibility melts away. The fuel is covered, the local insight is free, and the best part, lunch is on us for our Kaikoura or Arthur’s pass day tours.
Instead of white-knuckling the steering wheel through the Waimakariri Gorge or the Hundalee Hills, you’ll be in your own comfortable seat with a great view. You aren’t just getting a ride; you’re gaining a storyteller who knows exactly where the best hidden photo spots are.
Kaikoura vs. Arthur’s Pass Comparison Guide.
Kaikoura: The Coastal Classic
The Vibe: Marine magic, salty air, and fresh seafood.
The Experience: We start by taking you to the town’s highest lookout for a panoramic view of where the mountains meet the sea. From there, we head to the rugged shoreline to meet the locals, the famous New Zealand fur seals basking on the rocks. After exploring the quirky shops and seaside cafes, we’ll treat you to a Kiwi staple - authentic Kaikoura Fish ‘n’ Chips.
Make it Yours: Kaikoura is an adventurer’s playground. After lunch, the afternoon is yours! Many of our guests choose to pre-book a Whale Watch (by boat or plane), a Dolphin Encounter, or a high-flying Zipline experience. Your guide will ensure you get to your activity right on time, or if you prefer a slower pace, we’ll show you the best spots to relax and soak in the coastal charm.
Arthur’s Pass: The Alpine Escape (The Kea’s Choice)
The Vibe: High-country scenic vistas, ancient limestone, and mountain mischief.
The Experience: This tour is all about the “wow” moments along the Great Alpine Highway. Our first stop is at Springfield, the birthplace of the jet boat. Here, you can feel the adrenaline on a pre-booked jet boat ride or simply soak up some “Kiwiana” at the museum with a fresh coffee. After a scenic lunch, we’ll explore the towering limestone monoliths of Castle Hill (Kura Tawhiti) - a place so mysterious it feels like another world. (Some famous film producers thought so too).
The Highlight: We’ll wind through the Otira Gorge to Arthur’s Pass village, where the local Kea (the world’s only alpine parrot) are usually waiting to provide some entertainment! You can choose to hike to the thundering Devil’s Punchbowl Waterfall or explore the cozy village.
The Pro-Move: A fan-favourite is pre-booking the TranzAlpine train for the return leg to Christchurch. We’ll drop you at the station and meet you back in the city. If you stay with us in the van, we’ll treat you to a stop at Cave Stream - a hidden limestone wonder that most big tour buses drive straight past.
